BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupé: Italian Body, German Soul

BMW Gran Lusso Coupe

?

LAKE COMO, ITALY - Unseasonably wet weather in Italy led to the cancellation of sneak peek at BMW's first Villa d'Este collaboration with Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina, but that won't keep us from posting official press pics of the just-unveiled Gran Lusso Coup?, a one-off style exploration which tips a hat to BMW's decades old tradition of building long wheelbase two doors.

?

In profile, the Gran Lusso Coupe's proportions are guided by a long hood, a relatively rearward a-pillar, and a traditional BMW Hofmeister kink; a gently raking roofline extends a lazy arc towards the rear decklid, a la the BMW Group's Rolls-Royce Wraith.?

Swivel around to the rear view, and the imposing, angular theme is slimmed down by thin LED taillamps, which are "open-air" designs which are exposed to air and highlit with matte-sheen aluminum in the background.

Stay tuned for another BMW one-off-- of the two-wheeled variety-- from the 2013 Villa d'Este Concorso d'Eleganza.
